implemented or being implemented by EU finance are summarized as follows:
Capacity Building Project for Water Sector in Turkey
“Capacity Building Project for Water Sector in Turkey” started December 2007 was financed by
Turkey-Europe Financial Cooperation Programme 2006 within the context of “Water Framework
Directive”, regarded as an EU constitution on water issues. This project aimed to help Turkey's
Programme for Alignment with the Acquis Communautaire in terms of water management in
particular within the context of 2000/60/EC Water Framework Directive, 91/271/EEC Urban
Wastewater Treatment Directive, and 76/464/EEC Hazardous Materials Directive and relevant
directives.
This Project conducted with the consortium of Holland, England, and Slovakia was finished on
28th February 2010. This Project was implemented under the leadership of DSI General
Directorate in conjunction with relevant units of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry as well
as other Ministries. The project is composed of two components; the matching projects and
procurement of materials. Within the context of this project, the following actions have been
conducted;
Legislative and institutional analysis of “Water Framework Directive” and “Dangerous
Materials Directive” within the context of matters delineated in the aim of the Project,
Application plans for “Water Framework Directive” and “Dangerous Materials Directive”
within the context of matters delineated in the aim of the Project,
Pilot application of principles of “Water Framework Directive”, “Domestic Wastewater
Treatment Plant” and “Dangerous Materials Directive” on Büyük Menderes River Basin,
Comprehensive Communication Strategy, and
Procurement of necessary to establish monitoring stations and to build capacity of the
laboratory to improve real time operational basin information management system.
Project of Capacity Building for Flood Forecasting on the region of Turkey-Bulgaria
Transboundary Cooperation
The Project of Capacity Building for Flood Forecasting on the region of Turkey-Bulgaria
Transboundary Cooperation developed by DSI General Directorate started in October 2008 has
been completed by means of the finance of Turkey-Bulgaria Transboundary Cooperation Program,
which was on the sub-program of Turkey-EU Cooperation Finance Program The project has been
composed of the components of technical consultation, construction, supervision, and
procurement of material. Within the context of this project, the following works have completed:

Provision of technical aid so that a system would be established on rivers on the border between
Turkey and Bulgaria, which could work in conjunction with the early warning system that
Bulgarian side would establish,

Establishment of 4 fully automatic hydrometeorology stations on Maritsa and Tundja Rivers Su
(Akacağı, Değirmenyanı, Kirişhane ve Kapıkule),

River training of the 7.5 km part of Maritsa river passing through Edirne city in Turkey, and
-
Construction of a canal of 1,275m in length and of 20 m in width connecting between Maritsa
and Tundja.
Project of Capacity Building on Water Quality Monitoring
Having been presented in 2009 as a component EU-Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance
(IPA), the Project has been prepared together by General Directorate of Environmental
Administration and General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works. With the project it is aimed that
